Dear Lillie Burney families:

The Show Choir and Strings Programs are inviting you to come and enjoy a holiday night full of music. Everyone is welcome to this big event. Please bring friends and family to support our children.  There are several things to know about our concert.

Date: December 18th, 2012

Place: Multipurpose Building

Time: 6:00 pm kids needs to be in the music and strings room by 5:30

Dress: Black pants, shirts can be Christmas colors (red, white, or green), black shoes

String’s students must bring their instrument and binder with a book. If your child is missing any of the materials, he or she won’t be able to play at the concert.

We would really appreciate your efforts if you could help us at home by having your child practice every day. The concert is not an option. The concert is 30% of their 9-weeks grade, so please plan to be there.

Thanks for everything and we will see you at the concert!!!!!

Eight classes at Lillie Burney Elementary received new books for their classroom libraries through the "SunnyD Book Spree" program. Each class collected 20 SunnyD labels and received 20 books. Teachers, assistant teachers, parents and students and community members worked together to collect labels and earn the books. These classes include Ms. Brooks, Ms. Queen, Ms. Campbell/Ms. Edwards, Ms. Savage, Ms. Cannon, Ms. Charlene Brown/Ms. Poole, Ms. Norman/Ms.Carpenter, and Ms. Taylor. The school received 160 books at an estimated value of $960. This is double the amount they collected last year! The entire school is excited about the community working together to help the students get new books to read.

Lillie Burney students are excited about having a favorite author visit the school April 13, 2011. Students love the following books written by this wonderful writer. He has written six books so far and these include four children's picture books. They are Grandma's BiscuitsJamaal's Lucky Day!Fun Day in Mrs. Walker's Class, and What Can I Be?

Not only is the writing terrific but the illustrators are outstanding too! Two of the illustrators of the books have Mississippi ties. Jamea Richmond majored in Fine Arts at Jackson State University and is the illustrator of Grandma's Biscuits. Chuck Galey illustrated the award winning book, Fun Day in Mrs. Walker's Class and lives in Jackson Mississippi.
